Letter Aa

Aims:

· to present and practice the letter Aa;

· to practice saying the sound [ǣ];

· to learn the new words: Annie, apple, apron;

· to develop writing skills;

· to sing a song with the class.

Materials: PowerPoint presentation, alphabet cards, box.

Procedure

1. Warm - up

Aim: to review the students’ names.

Point to yourself and say your name.

Teacher: I’m _________________________ and who are you? What’s your name?

Students stand up and say what are their names.

Students stand ups whose name is …. Sasha, Masha, Georgie.

Teacher: If you are Sasha stand up, if you are Masha stand up….

Repeat with about five or six names.

2. Presentation

Aim: to present and practice the letter of the alphabet.

Hold the flashcard with the letter on the board so that the students cannot see it.

Take the box and put into the box the apple or the plastic apple or the flashcards with letter Aa.

Ask the students about the objects in the box.   

Teacher: What’s in the box?

If the students can’t say, teacher tries to explain in details.

Teacher: It’s circle. Sometimes it’s red, sometimes it’s green. I like it.

(teacher shows how she/he is eating).

Teacher: Yes, it’s an apple. The word «apple» begins from the letter «a» and today we are talking about the letter «Aa»

Story Annie apple and Mr. A

T: Сьогодні на вас чекає подорож до країни — Letterland. Дивовижна країна, де живуть , як ви думаєте? Так, звісно, букви. Вони, як і ви, люблять співати, танцювати та гратися. Отже, Welcome to Letterland. Наша подорож починається.

Кожний житель цієї країни — це буква , яка має свій характер, звички і вподобання і нам треба з усіма літерами познайомитися.

Ось і перша мешканка чарівного містечка літери Аа — A — велика -

Mr. Apron, а- маленька — Annie apple. Зустрічайте!

У них багато друзів серед тваринок.An alligator, an antelope, an acrobat, an astronaut.

Відвідувачі Mr. Apron, а- маленької — Annie apple не люблять, коли в гості приходить маленька an ant, бо вона дуже кусається і лоскочить гостей.

У Mr. Apron любить доглядати свій сад, де ростуть яблука- apples. Коли яблука достигають, Mr. Apron бере свій фартух - apron і обережно збирає всі яблука. Він з задоволенням пригощає мешканців Letterland.

А ще літери люблять співати.     

Students listen to the song and say the sound [ǣ]

3. Letter shape — handwriting activity

Aim: to ptactise writing the letter Aa.

Teacher shows how to write the letters on the board.

Teacher: Watch the video again and remember how can you write the capital and short letter «Aa».

Students ptactise writing the capital and short letters in their worksheets (Ex .2).

Monitor to check they are writing the letters correctly.

Students find all the letter «a» in the line (Ex.3).

Teacher: Super! Look at the exercise 3, you need to find all the letters «A» and circle them. Count how many letters have you got?

Children look at the exercise 4, teacher gives the instruction how can they do. After that the students have to write the capital and short letters Aa.

Teacher: Look at the exercise 4, what can you see? What colour is it? You have to colour our alligator and write the capital and short letter Aa.

4. Practice

Aim: to review, ptactise and make sure that students understand the materials.        

Teacher writes the lines of different letters on the board

Students go to the board, find and circle the capital and short letters.

Teacher: Look at the board. You should go to the board, look at the lines with letters carefully and find all letters Aa. Count how many letters have you got?

Repeat five or six times.

5. Ending the lesson

Aim: to review key letter and words from the lesson

Say the following prompt: Today I’ve learnt about…. Students have to continue the prompt. Teacher can use the microphone and choose the students as he/she wants.

Teacher: So, students let’s review what have we learnt at the lesson? You have to start from the phrase: I’ve learnt about….

Hold on the board 4 faces, students go to the board, choose, touch and answering the question — do you like the lesson?

Teacher: Go to the board and stand in a line, choose one smile which is describing your feeling from the lesson. Let’s do it one by one. If you’ ve done it, you can sit on your place.
