Free Time. Toys

Objectives:

· to present and practise What`s your favourite toy? —My favourite toy is…

· to practise the names of toys and letters A, B, C, D, F, H, P, T, R

· to practise listening and speaking skills

· develop emotional intelligence

Basic competences:

Language competence: Pupils identify and name the toys and letters, ask and answer simple questions.

Social and civic competences: Pupils work together (in groups) to greet each other, to ask and answer about their favourite toys.

Sense of initiative and entrepreneurship: Pupils draw a picture (figure) of a snowman.

Language

New language: What`s your favourite toy? —My favourite toy is…

Recycled language: names of toys, colours and letters A, B, C, D, F, H, P, T, R

Materials: CD, Flashcards (toys, letters), magnetic letters, Pupil`s Books, Activity Books, coloured pencils, dolls, maracas, mirrors, paper snowmen for drawing

Type of the lesson: A lesson of getting and consolidation of knowledge.

The expected result: By the end of the lesson the pupils identify the names of toys and letters A, B, C ,D, F, H, P, T, R, can ask simple questions How are you?, What`s your favourite toy? and answer about their favourite toys. They make a project (snowman)

The sequence of the lesson

I. The beginning of the lesson

Warm-up (5 min)

Morning circle

· Acquaint the pupils with the dolls Pavlo and Hanna and ask How are you?- I`m fine, thank you.

· Tell the pupils the topic of the lesson.

· Flash the flashcards (toys) in front of the class (in circle) and repeat the names of toys in chorus. (pay attention to the pronunciation of the words: kite, monster, doll, plane, computer game, train, car, go-cart, ball)

· Elicit what the word is and give the flashcard to the pupil who says it correctly (one of the pupils helps to answer Yes or No)

· Invite the pupils with the flashcards to stick the flashcards on the board.

II. The Main Part (25min)

1. Presentation.

Pre-teach favourite by asking individual pupils which their favourite toy is.

Listen and match (CD 64) - Pupil`s Book, page 37

· Give pupils time to look at the pictures (in Pupil`s Books) p.37

· Play the recording. Pupils listen and point to the correct toy.

· Pause after each part to check the answer with the class.

2. Ask and answer.

· Demonstrate the activity by encouraging pupils to ask What`s your favourite toy? —My favourite toy is…

· Pupils practice the question and answers in open pairs and then in closed pairs.

3. Extension.

· Pupils mingle around the classroom (while the teacher plays the maracas).

· When the music stops, they meet another pupil and have a conversation:

Pupil 1: What`s your favourite toy?

Pupil 2: My favourite toy is …

4. Look and say. What letter is it?

· Flash the flashcards (letters A, B, C, D, F, H, P, T, R) in front of the class.

· Pronounce the letters in chorus in front of small mirrors.

5. Play the game

· Unite the pupils using the coloured cards (yellow and green).

· The teacher demonstrates the activity by encouraging pupils to guess the letter, find the right magnetic letter and stick it on the board. (in groups one by one)

6. Trace the lines and say.

· Pupils trace the lines from the pictures of the children to the toys.

· Then they ask the teacher`s question What`s your favourite toy? using My favourite toy is my…

7. Make your own picture (snowman) - Project

· Ask pupils about the season and holiday, which is coming.

· Ask pupils to make the given snowman alive. Draw and colour its eyes, mouth, arms and buttons.

· Encourage them to use the pencils they like.

· The class can have their own exhibition to show the rest of the school their work.

III. Summing- up

Reflection (3-5 min)

Ask pupils:

- What have you done today?

- Do you like our lesson? If the answer is Yes, encourage them to clap their hands for their work.
